Adaptive Cycling Experience Clinic - June 8, 2008
Up until 2007, for seven years, Adaptive Adventures had developed and managed the nation's largest integrated cycling event, the Rocky Mountain Omnium (RMO). In 2006, the event hosted over 675 riders of all ages and abilities. As the event and Adaptive Adventures have grown, it has become apparent that the resources of Adaptive Adventures are best utilized in the growth of integrated cycling on recreational and grassroots levels. At the same time, Adaptive Adventures has the desire continue the development of the RMO and to help US Handcycling further its mission and goals.

2007 marked the first year of a four year partnership between Adaptive Adventures and US Handcycling related to the RMO. Under this collaboration, US Handcycling will take over the management and organization of all competitive aspects of the RMO, and will replace Adaptive Adventures as the lead promoter for the event. Adaptive Adventures will continue to support competitive efforts and all phases of the RMO, but will focus the majority of its resources on developing and managing the recreational and grassroots aspects of the event. |
The recreational side of the RMO will again include a comprehensive clinic in City Park, Denver, Colorado, and a group of recently injured armed forces personnel as special guests. In addition, Adaptive Adventures will be looking to increase other riding opportunities and community outreach surrounding the event. “Our programs cater to athletes of all ages and abilities,” noted Adaptive’s Program Director, Matt Feeney. “Cycling, like all of our outdoor sports programs, is ideal for people with disabilities to keep up health, enhance fitness, and increase self-confidence. By devoting less resources on the RMO, we will not only be helping to further the mission of the USHF, but we will be able to provide more opportunities through camps, clinics, rides and tours throughout the year,” commented Feeney.
New to the RMO in 2007, U.S. Paralympics managed the World Championship Team selection trials [for all disability groups] in Denver. We are proud to have US Paralympics recognize and support the RMO.
